North Rhine-Westphalia has launched the largest sports investment programme in its history through the “NRW Sports Billion” initiative, committing major funding to modernise and expand sports infrastructure across the region. A key focus of the programme is a €200 million investment dedicated specifically to sports clubs, supporting the renovation, modernisation, and construction of club-owned sports facilities. The initiative aims to improve conditions for grassroots sport, strengthen community engagement, and create sustainable spaces that encourage physical activity, health, and social inclusion. Additional funding is also being allocated to swimming pools and municipal sports facilities, reinforcing the state’s long-term commitment to sport development and the improvement of local sporting infrastructure.
